So often people tell me “I don’t have time to read, I want all the information quickly, boil it down to the essence, I don’t have time for the details.” My reply to that is: Every work of art that demands awe and admiration from the observer is all about the details. Think of the amazing architecture of Gaudí or the paintings and scientific drawings of Da Vinci, think of the way our own body is constructed, or an insect, or a tree. Think of the amount of intricacy that goes into building a computer or a space ship or an airplane. Think of training that it takes to become an amazing ballet dancer or pianist or heart surgeon.
I know that in times where everyone is checking their phone a hundred times (or more) a day for the newest and latest from everyone around, actually sitting down and spending hours, weeks, months or years to work on ONE thing in detail or to practice a new skill has become hard to imagine for most people. It can be a long and lonely process and at times there is no end in sight. It takes an incredible amount of commitment, dedication, discipline and LOVE to stick with something until it is completed. If it is a skill that you a learning, it may never be complete, because you can keep improving forever.
When you take on any project or mission like that it is not about “being in the mood for it” or “feeling like it today” any more. When you make that commitment you surrender your moods, fears, doubts and worries to the process. You work through them regardless. You don’t have to be afraid: If you have a strong vision it will pull you through. Hour after hour. Day after day. No matter what. This is where the character is built. You will grow as a person and excel your own expectations. You will be able to do what you haven’t done before. And in the end you come out stronger than you have ever thought you could be.
When you love something, it IS all about the details. So if you feel that you are not interested in the details of something, that’s perfectly fine: All it means is that this particular thing is not and will not be YOUR FIELD. Regard this as valuable information and simply move on to something that truly inspires you. <3
